I placed an ad in the adult category. Why isn’t it active yet?
Cracker reviews all ads placed in the adult categories (erotic/Erotic - Toys/accessories, Websites/movies, Escort/adult and Casual encounters/nsa) prior to publishing them on the website. We do this to make sure they comply with Australian advertising guidelines in each state. Due to the volume of ads placed each day, this approval process may take up to 48 business hours.
If you require an ad to be active on a specific date, we recommend you place the ad a minimum of 48 business hours in advance. This approval process does not reduce the length of time an ad will run: all free ads will be active for 14 days; all premium ads will be active for 28 days.
This approval process will occur every time you:
- Place a new ad
- Access the ‘Edit Ad’ page of an existing ad
- Re-run a previously approved ad
Please note that the 48 hour review process for free adult ads also applies to premium adult ads.

Can I place an ad that contains explicit content?
Yes, provided it is legal and complies with the following rules:
- Pornographic images that directly or indirectly depict a human engaged in acts of a sexual nature are prohibited. Note that this rule is not limited to photographs of sexual acts, but includes any act which could be interpreted as sexual in nature. If you are uncertain about whether your image depicts an act of a sexual nature, do not post it.
- Images that display uncovered genitals are prohibited. Ads containing these images will be deleted.
- Ads that imply or suggest a member is seeking sexual favours or any act of an adult nature in exchange for money, gifts or services are prohibited. This is considered solicitation and is illegal.
- Ads containing text of an overtly sexual nature are prohibited. Ads containing text of this nature will be deleted.
Cracker reserves the right to make a final determination on whether an ad or forum posting adheres to these rules.
Ads that contravene the above rules will be deleted. Any payments made for premium listings will be refunded.
Cracker reserves the right to edit or delete content at our discretion; we also reserve the right to terminate a user’s access to, or use of, our service if they do not follow the above rules.

Can I post ads of an adult nature outside the Adult Category?
No. Any ad containing content of an adult nature that is placed outside the adult categories (erotic/Erotic - Toys/accessories, Websites/movies, Escort/adult and Casual encounters/nsa) will be removed. Users who repeatedly place explicit ads outside the adult section will be banned from Cracker.
To view explicit content or place an ad under the adult category, all users must acknowledge that they are 18 years or older and consent to viewing such content.

What constitutes an escort ad?
Any ad offering a sexual service (of any kind) in return for a payment (of any kind) is considered an escort ad. Any ad that constitutes an escort ad must adhere to the escort advertising regulations in your
State State. Escort ads must be placed in the escort category.
Can I place my escort ad in other categories, like ‘causal encounters’ and ‘websites’ to get more exposure?
No. Escort ads can only be placed in the escort category. There are no exceptions to this rule. Free ads placed in the incorrect category will be deleted; premium ads placed in the wrong category will be moved to the correct category.
Cracker views escort ads placed in incorrect categories very seriously: Cracker readers who want to view escort ads can do so when they visit the escort category. Advertisers who repeatedly place ads in inappropriate categories will be banned.

What rules govern the placement of escort ads?
Each state has its own regulations for the placement of escort ads. All ads must comply with the regulations of the state in which the ad appears. For example, if you live in New South Wales but place the ad in Western Australia, your ad must adhere to the Western Australia regulations.
There are two exceptions to this rule: Queensland and Victoria. Any ad placed from either Queensland or Victoria must comply with both the ‘home state’ regulations and those of the state being advertised in.

How do I find out the advertising rules of my State?
Advertisers are responsible for the content of their ads. If your ad is in breach of the relevant regulations, you may be prosecuted.
The list below provides links to legislation databases in each state. A search for ‘prostitution advertising’ will identify the appropriate regulations for each state.
* To place an escort ad in Victoria, you will need to register for and receive a Sex Workers Act (SWA) licence number. From November 1st, 2011, ads with a PCA license will not be processed. You can find further information on the Business Licensing Authority website
http://www.bla.vic.gov.au/.
** To place an escort ad in Queensland, you no longer need approval from the Prostitution Licensing Authority (PLA). Instead the PLA have released a set of guidelines that all prostitution ads must follow; you can view these guidelines on their site
http://www.pla.qld.gov.au.

Are there any nation-wide rules?
Although each state has its own rules governing prostitution advertising, some are common across all states. In all states it is illegal to:
- Advertise ‘natural’ or ‘bareback’ sexual services. Sex workers may only promote safe (with condom) sex. This prohibition includes the use of code words such as CIM, COF, BBBJ, NF, “French to completion” or any other phrase that implies a non-safe sexual act.
- Place an ad that solicits prostitution or is likely to encourage someone to become a sex worker. This includes ads that offer payment in return for a sexual service, or recruiting people to work in the ‘Adult Industry’.

Can I place an ad that offers or requests massage services?
As with sex work, each state has its own regulations on advertising massage as an adult service. Advertisers are responsible for ensuring that their ad complies with state regulations.

What is the age of consent?
In the majority of states, the age of consent is 16 years for both homosexual and heterosexual couples. The three exceptions are South Australia, Tasmania and Queensland.
In Tasmania and South Australia the age of consent is 17 years for both homosexual and heterosexual couples.
In Queensland the age of consent for vaginal sex is 16 years; the age of consent for anal sex is 18 years.
Contact your State Health Department for more information on the age of consent.

Why do you review adult ads before they go live?
All ads placed in the adult category are reviewed to ensure they comply with the advertising guidelines for each state. Due to the high volume of ads placed each day, it may take up to 48 business hours to approve each ad. If you require your ad to be active on a certain day, we recommend you place the ad at least 48 business hours in advance.
This approval process will occur each time you place a new ad, access the ‘Edit Ad’ page on an existing ad, or re-run a previously approved ad.
