Hi there
I have just joined your forum..after reading a few topics i think its a great and helpful site :)
2 weeks ago my partner and i bought our first ever dog. My partner has always wanted a pure bred staffy since we bought our house as he had one as a child. I have never had a dog. We bought our pure bred female staffy and this last two weeks has been the longest ever! We have tried everything to stop her from crying at night or while she is alone. (we work full time and can only spend time with her in the mornings and evenings and weekends). We have bought heaps of toys, put a radio in the laundry where she is sleeping, putting a ticking clock in her kennel as well as a water bottle. BUT nothing is working. Any suggestions?? I am about to crack as i havent slept because of her constant crying and am worried that nothing i am doing is working...will she ever snap out of this stage? :( HELP???

Hi there. We brought our new 6 week old Staffy pup home last night and I had to leave her crying this morning when I went to work. So horrible and I feel terrible! She's got lots of toys, blankets and a heater but still worried.

Has your puppy stopped crying now and what finally worked?!?!??

Hi Lydia and thanks for the reply!

She so far seems to be quiet when we are not home. No neighbours have complained yet which is good :) As soon as she hears movement or a door opening when we come home she goes off. We have tried leaving her and just letting her cry and whimper. I feel bad, but we do it and its still not really working...maybe we just have a sook! :(

Hi all,
Ive just bought a 8 week old staffy home - 4 days ago actually. Still in the learning faze of having
1 a puppy at home
2 a 3 yr old, 2 yr old and a 8 week old staffy
Im a stay at home mum and have been trying to find the balance of all the above and mixing my attention to the kids and the dog.
Ive been reading your forum - thank god for it!! but am totally getting confused about how much to feed the dog, what to feed the dog, ow much attention it shld be getting, how to deal with it and the kids at the same time. The only thing Ive been able to work out is discipline. We've already managed to teach the dog to sit and poo in the laundry in a kitty litter so I feel thats a good achievement already.
I know its still early days and its still puppy and will grow out of chewing, biting, jumping etc but can someone help with how to deal with it and the kids at the same time.
Both dog and kids are never left alone.
Also, sorry to say this on those who completely disagree but the dog will be an outside dog. At this stage it is in while so young but as it gets older it will be out. Any advice on this too?
Sorry for the long note but I want to get on top of everything and have a great time with the dog.
Thanks

Hi and thanks for the reply puppy lover!

Warm milk might be the go! I havent thought of that..i will go buy some puppy milk and give that a go :)

How did you survive a MONTH of howling and crying!?? I am going to rip my hair out if this goes on for that long :( my fiancee is a shift worker so he will be just as glad for her to snap outta this than i will be!

We only have a bird to keep her company in the laundry...no other dogs for her to play with :(

Sorry forgot to reply to your question :) Na she is not easily scared, she is very happy and adventourous and into everthing. She goes to all kinds of people and isnt afraid to do anything. Her tail is always wagging, she has a good apetite and playful. Just doesnt let us sleep at night..haha!

Thanks for the posts Amstaff and Krazee!

Things seem to be getting better..the crying and barking arent as bad...but she just hates to be left on her own. I feel soooo bad leaving her alone as i know she hates it but it has to be done. I knew that Staffy's were ppl loving dogs but gosh i never realised just how much :)Seeing as its winter, i suppose the coldness doesnt help her., she would rather be cuddled up with me!

Amstaff you are soooo lucky that your puppy hasnt carried on the crying and whingeing. How's it doing now?? Also, when you say you give your pup a hot dinner before bed...what do you give? I am just giving puppy food with some natural youghurt to soften the biscuits.

Krazee your babies are BEAUTIFUL!! We have tried the crate/box but she just bashes it over, gets out and runs riot! Cant win :(

We have thought about keeping her the bedroom but once that routine has started is it easy to break from?? We eventually want her to stay outside once she is a bit older and the weather is warmer...we live in regional WA and it's FREEZING AT NIGHT!!

Sounds like your pup is going really well! Your lucky to have a routine sorted :)

I just cant wait for her to get over the puppy whingey stage and then we will have the energy to start training her. I went and bought a book on how to train and some treats and im going to start with that. We will eventually take her to puppy school too. Since we got her its been so busy with trying to make her comfortable and happy that we havent started to train her yet.

Hey i just put her into her little bed in the laundry about 30 mins ago and havent heard a peep...yet! Woo Hoo!!

Im going to try that hot meal of yours. How often do you feed that to your pup? Every day or just every few days?
